BOSTnet offers sequenced multi-exposure trainings designed to meet the needs of diverse programs in and around Boston area. All trainings are designed based on research and meet the United Way's criteria for professional development as well as standards from the Early Education and Childcare professional development topics.
Topics Include:
Organizational Development
Provide staff a comprehensive road map to Out-of-School program management and how to create a unique developmental setting for youth. Staff will learn about program development, outcome measurement, and marketing and outreach to families and the community. Key leadership topics are examined using case studies, projects, and examining literature.
Inclusion and Access for Children and Youth with Disabilities
With increasing numbers of children and youth being included in programs, staff benefit from additional supports to effectively create safe and supportive environment for all. Disability awareness and general tips on inclusion come from BOSTnet’s six year involvement with Lead to Opportunities for Youth with Disabilities (LOYD) and on-going work in Promoting Positive Behavior, a set of tools and strategies geared towards preventing negative behaviors in children and youth on all spectrums.
Program Quality
Many staff need basic training in what Out-of-School time does and how to make that time well spent for everyone concerned. Child and youth development overviews, understanding the role of leadership in effective management, and how to create opportunities for families in programs are examined. Program quality is seen as an ongoing effort and not a fixed goal achieved once.
Costs are associated with all professional development but are adjusted to fit the scope of the work as well as logistical considerations. BOSTnet serves the Boston and Greater Boston area. Contact griffin@bostnet.org for further information or call 617-720-1290.
