BOSTnet’s History
BOSTnet was founded in 1987-as Parents United for Child Care-to expand access to quality, affordable child care in Massachusetts. Over twenty years later, BOSTnet has grown into a professionally managed organization with a broader focus: ensuring that children and youth are well cared for during out-of-school time (OST) hours.
BOSTnet addresses the need to enhance and provide access to opportunities and resources by reaching out to low- and moderate-income families, out-of-school time providers and local and state policymakers. BOSTnet has three main areas of focus in out-of-school time: Strengthening Programs, Access for All, and the BOSTnet Out-of-School Time Landscape Project. We serve as a resource, a partner, and a policy advocate.
For the past 19 years, BOSTnet has been the ONLY organization in Boston to produce a comprehensive and accurate annual guide for the programs in the greater Boston area. The Guide to Boston’s Before and After School Programs, available online in English and Spanish, is an invaluable resource for families searching for after school, before school, and summer opportunities. With the largest, most accurate database of after school programs in Boston, BOSTnet is the first organization in Boston to provide maps that provide a picture of where programs are located.
